Is Big Brother Reality Show Based on the Orwellian Theory?

The somewhat "Orwellian" game, - Big Brother Africa, is more than just a game of fun, wits and entertainment. Many viewers see the game as a great reality show that demands house-mates entertain us for 91 days.

It is that, of course, but it is also very deep.

Going deeper, the game depicts a "totalitarian society" where all its "citizens" in this case, the house-mates; are confined within a structured space for three months without access to, or contact with the outside world.

They are constantly monitored by cameras, at times (with twists in the game) fed fabricated news, cannot under any circumstances challenge the order of things, and are totally made to be enthralled with a "mythical" leader known to them only by the name Big Brother.

The game involves a struggle for a prize no doubt, but the subtle struggle to reach the "finishing line" doesn't seem to become evident a few weeks after the opening show.

The euphoria of being on the show consumes the house-mates for the first few days, even with nominations coming up barely 12hrs after they enter the house.

The new BBA 8 contestants hardly know themselves anyway, so emotions don't come to play and nominating a fellow house-mate depends on merely mundane reasons.

The first sense of realisation of why they are there (in the first place) hits them like a "tornado" on their very first Sunday evening eviction process.

BBA First Eviction - What Feelings Does it Elicit?

Just like it's been with all house-mates feelings after the first house-mate(s) is booted out, the Big Brother contestants start to displays varied emotions. I guess the reality begins to set in, especially for those who were nominated but lucky enough to escape the "chopping block".
Come the following Monday, house-mates varied emotions are displayed openly or privately and includes:
  • Mistrust
  • Alliances
  • Imagined enemies
  • Rash decisions
  • Dislike
  • Pettiness
  • Back-stabbing
These traits usually start off the dynamics of the game, though it may not seem so apparent to many viewers at the time.

A discerning viewer will note the individual characteristics of each contestant begin to surface after the initial warming welcome of each other and the banters that last all night long.

What Should We Expect Big Brother Africa 8 Season?

BBA 8 series seems to be starting off on a very interesting note. I love the "friends will be divided" slogan. What effect will this latest BBA twist have on the contestants?

Your guess is as good as mine, but what is certain is that as the game progresses, we should expect sweethearts separated, only to start off new affairs, and alliances being formed only to be broken with the reshuffle that seems to be the theme of season 8
