Do you remember the Big Brother Africa show of yester-years? The years when BBA shows was so much fun that some incidents left fans and all viewers reeling in awe, shock, dismay, depending on what was happening, who it was happening to, and when it happened.
Those times which now seem like light years ago, housemates were anything but self conscious. In whatever they did, they always threw caution to the wind. It was as if no one saw them. They certainly had no qualms or inhibitions back then.
At the time, the showers was in the open for all to see. Yep! Every housemate had his or her shower in the full glare of Africa, and probably beyond. Some in the nude, and others not. The ONLY private enclosed space was the loo.
Housemates were naughty. Very naughty, and you'll find viewers glued to their seats day and night, watching and waiting for another major event to unfold. And there were many of such.
Because food was plenty, and alcohol flowed freely, game times was always a blast. Bold, audacious, and absolutely daring. From "spin the bottle" to "truth or dare" party games; they were so comfortable with each other and therefore there was never a dull moment.
And there was a lot of dancing day and night. Biggie supplied them with ample sounds, they danced wherever the beat 'caught them'.
And for the Friday night parties, BBA housemates dressed up to the hilt! Gorgeously attired, heavily but beautifully made up, hair all in place and looking great, they all sashayed to the tunes of the best DJ's in Africa.
There were strong alliances, and everyone belonged to either the weak or strong group. This in itself was equally entertaining. That's hardly surprising since they had nothing to give them an escape. No pens, paper, musical instruments, clocks, and the like.
The organizers Mnet Africa and Endemol are still keeping us highly entertained with this epic show, but things are kind of different these past couple of years. Why? Housemates are more aware of being watched and therefore being judged accordingly.
They are so conscious of Africa's eye on them, they try their best to be good, and not deviate from the norm. Of course this translates to . . . some housemates putting up an act, almost being "fake" as fans are quick to point out. But many of us think not. You can't put on an act for more than 30 days before you slip up. But this is just an opinion of one lone fan, maybe some others too.
Having said that, we need the Big Brother Africa housemates to loosen up a bit more and be their true selves without worrying about the cameras. We really need some MORE fun AND entertainment, don't you think?
